Trivia Tadka

The Ladva or Churma Ladoo is a traditional Gujarati sweet which is considered to be highly nutritious and is often given to nursing mothers to build their strength.

Ingredients

  • Wheat flour (atta), coarse (2 cups)
  • Chickpea flour (besan) (2 tbsp)
  • Jaggery (gur) (1 cup)
  • Ghee (1/2 cup)
  • Cardamom powder (elaichi powder) (1 tsp)
  • Poppy seeds (khus-khus) (1 tsp)
  • Milk (1 cup)

Method

  • In a paraat, mix the wheat flour with chickpea flour. Add 1 tbsp ghee to it and then, mix again.
  • Pour milk into the mixture and knead it into soft dough.
  • Divide the dough into small balls. Shape each ball like a muthiya.
  • In a kadhai, heat some oil. Now, slowly transfer the muthiyas into it and deep fry them on slow flame till you see them turn into a shade of golden brown.
  • Remove the fried muthiyas from the kadhai and allow them to cool down.
  • Crush these balls till they turn into a mixture.
  • Now, in a pan, heat ghee and jaggery on slow flame.
  • As soon as the bubbles start appearing in the pan, add the previously prepared mixture to it. Also, add some cardamom powder and stir intermittently.
  • Allow the freshly made mixture to cool down a bit and then, make ladva or Laddos from it.
  • Sprinkle khus-khus on the Ladva as garnish and serve with tea.
